Information & routes
The "march of industrial culture" or simply "Ruhrpottmarsch" started several years ago as a training course for the 4daagse in Nijmegen. Foreign hikers could not believe that green trails lead through the Ruhr-area and thought we would be walking between coal, rust and dust. In cooperation with the Reserves of the German Armed Forces (Kreisgruppe Rhein-Ruhr) the march became an official DVV / IVV double marathon. 2 days, each up to 42 km rounds to interesting viewpoints and industrial monuments in the area. And along the way - of course - several Beergardens...
At the first edition in 2017, 154 enthusiastic participants were already taking part, and for 2018 further attractive routes were added. Daily, 6, 15, 32 or 42 kilometers can be hiked with the official DVV stamps. The medal-distance is 2 x 42 km. Special offers for soldiers / reservists and marching groups are available. A printed guide will also explain the individual sections of the route in detail and provide information on the sights.
I am looking forward to welcoming you in June!
The event is basically a double hiking marathon with optional shorter distances. The idea is to offer an optimal preparation for the 4daagse in Nijmegen, one month later. The route mostly runs on former railway tracks, converted to modern hiking trails and shows green landscape and a view of the industrial monuments in this region. The route itself is basically flat and asphalted with several long and straight sections. Only at the end of the second day there is a significant climb up to a stuck pile to enjoy the impressive view over 8 cities.
Every 5 to 8 km there is a checkpoint with water and fruit. In addition, the hiker has to take care of himself. Cause of the numerous restaurants directly at the route, this will be no problems.
